One of the purposes of marriage in the New Testament and Old Testament:
TO BECOME ONE PERSON/ONE FLESH

Mark 10:7-8 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife.  So they; are no longer two, but one.”
Genesis 2:24 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.”
But it's not so easy… Why?

There are at least 5 differences that we individually bring into a marriage that makes it almost Impossible!
  1. Opposite sex: We are attracted to the opposite sex but living with them is tough.
Example: Men generally deal with one project at a time whereas women work with many projects at a time because they are multitaskers. Men believe women use too many words and women believe men don’t use enough words.

  2. Different personalities: Again, we are generally attracted to different personalities but living with them can become frustrating.
Example: My wife reads and follows instruction books but I throw them away… what a waste of time…lets be spontaneous!
  3.  DNA: How far back do we go to blame someone for our actions and reactions?
Example: Kathryn and I have gone back, way back, and done a study on the DNA of Adam and Eve and guess what…we haven’t changed much. It is all their fault!
  4. Family of Origin:  They were our first teachers and trainers. They greatly influence how we see marriage.
Example: Think about that for a moment when I tell you that I was raised in a home where the father was king and Kathy in a home where the mom was in charge.
  5. The last one makes it all but impossible.  We are all sinners, flawed and dysfunctional…one way or another.
No wonder divorce is very much an option!
But, remember God hates divorce!  A dilemma!
